What kills a cold call isn't rejection, it's sounding like a cold call. The first words decide whether they listen or hang up, and most scripts start badly: talking about your company instead of theirs.

This script is designed for Spanish SMEs and sole traders, where whoever answers usually decides. We include the key lines in Spanish.

The five parts

1. Opening (10 seconds)

Name, company and why them.

«Hola, ¿Antonio? Soy Laura, de Climatiza Sur. Te llamo porque estamos revisando las instalaciones de aire de varios restaurantes de la zona antes del verano.» (Hi, Antonio? I'm Laura from Climatiza Sur. I'm calling because we're checking air-con units at several restaurants in the area before summer.)

Skip "do you have a minute?": you've just given the reason.

2. Diagnostic question

«¿Cuándo fue la última vez que os revisaron las máquinas?» (When were your units last serviced?)

3. Value in one sentence

"Unserviced units use up to 25 % more electricity, and in a kitchen that shows on the bill."

4. Propose the next step

"I could drop by on Thursday morning for ten minutes. Is 10 or 12 better?"

Two options, not "when suits you?".

5. Close and confirm

"Thursday at 10, then. I'll text you my name so you have it."

Common objections

Objection Answer
"Not interested" "Understood. Just so I know: is it already covered by someone?"
"Send me information" "Sure. So it's not generic, what concerns you most about X right now?"
"No time" "That's why I'm calling instead of sending a brochure. Shall I call Friday first thing?"
"We have a supplier" "Great. Are you happy with their response times?"

Never

Lie about why you're calling, claim a referral you don't have, or insist after a no. In Spain you must respect anyone who doesn't want calls, and check the Robinson list before calling sole traders.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a cold call last?+

The aim of the first call isn't to sell, it's to secure the next step. Two to four minutes is usually enough.

Landline or mobile?+

With small Spanish businesses, the owner's mobile: the landline is answered by an employee who doesn't decide.
